SSBN Limited (trading as Fathom)

Global Flood Cat, Global Flood Maps, Fathom Risk Score

Fathom is a global flood specialist whose Global Flood Map, Global Flood Cat model and Fathom Risk Score quantify pluvial, fluvial and coastal flooding — including financial loss — using physics-based hydrodynamic modelling at up to ~10 m resolution, conditioned on IPCC scenarios to 2100. Its methods and validation are published in peer-reviewed papers (e.g. Wing et al., Water Resources Research 2024), and both MSCI and the Bank of England have cited the model's documentation; data are typically integrated into clients' own systems. Now part of Swiss Re, it remains deliberately narrow but deep on flood — serving insurers, banks, investors, corporates, engineers and governments.

Beta

Public transparency, not model quality iThe Transparency Score (0–3) estimates public methodological transparency: the degree to which the vendor's analytical approach to modeling climate and nature risk can be assessed from publicly available sources. It is explicitly not a measure of vendor quality or accuracy.

3

Transparency leader: risk methodology is openly documented, peer-reviewed, or open-source.

Transparency leader: a public library of peer-reviewed flood-model papers with validation and uncertainty, cited as transparent by MSCI and the Bank of England; not open-source.
